Blues C Jaden Schwartz and C Andy McDonald each netted a goal and assist to lead St. Louis to a 4-1 victory against the Wild Monday at Xcel Energy Center. LW Dany Heatley scored for Minnesota, while G Niklas Backstrom made 20 saves in the loss. The Wild starts a three game road trip – tied for its longest of the season – Wednesday in San Jose at 9:30 p.m. CT on FOX Sports North and KFAN 100.3 FM locally, and NBC Sports Network nationally.
Minnesota moved to 10-3-0 in its last 13 games, 15-6-0 in its last 21 contests overall. The Wild is now 13-4-1 at home this season, seeing its four-game home winning streak end. Tonight’s attendance of 18,786 was the Wild’s 14th straight sellout at Xcel Energy Center and 16th of the season.
LW Dany Heatley scored his 10th goal of the season. He has seven points (2-5=7) in his last nine games, with 20 points this season. He now has three points (2-1=3) in two games against the Blues this season.
D Jonas Brodin tallied an assist – his third helper in his last five games. Brodin, the youngest defenseman in the NHL, now has eight points (2-6=8) in 32 games during his rookie campaign. He has a +9 rating over his last 10 games.
After missing the Wild’s last game with an illness, LW Torrey Mitchell tallied an assist. He now has a three-game point streak (2-1=3) – his longest since a streak in the final four games of the 2010-11 season (4/4-4/9).
G Niklas Backstrom made 20 saves but saw his franchise-record eight-game win streak come to an end. He suffered his first loss since a 2-1 defeat March 12 vs. Anaheim and only his third loss in his last 16 games. He leads the NHL with 19 games this season and moved to 8-2-1 in his last 11 games on home ice since Feb. 7.
Minnesota’s opponent opened the scoring for the third straight game, after the Wild had scored first in 10 of its previous 11 contests.
