Postgame Notes vs. Chicago - April 9
Chicago RW Marian Hossa scored in the second period as the Blackhawks topped the Wild 1-0 Tuesday at Xcel Energy Center. Wild G Niklas Backstrom made 30 saves in the loss. The Wild continues its three-game homestand with a game against the St. Louis Blues Thursday at 7 p.m. CT on FOX Sports North and KFAN 100.3 FM.
Minnesota moved to 13-5-1 at Xcel Energy Center this season and 9-5-0 in its last 14 games overall. Tonight’s attendance of 19,158 was the Wild’s 15th straight sellout at Xcel Energy Center and 17th of the season.
D Ryan Suter skated 32:23 - the second-highest ice time of his career (32:43, 1/16/11 at CHI) - and topped 31 minutes in ice time for the second straight game. He leads all NHL players in TOI/game and has skated more than 30 minutes in six games this season, including four of his top nine career TOI outings. He also ranks second amongst all NHL defensemen with 29 points (4-25=29) this season.
G Niklas Backstrom stopped 30-of-31 shots and remains tied for the NHL lead with 20 victories this season. He has started 22 of the Wild’s last 24 contests and fell to 11-5-1 on home ice this season, including 8-3-1 in his last 12 games in St. Paul.
Four straight games between the Wild and Blackhawks in Saint Paul have been decided by one goal. Minnesota fell in a 1-0 contest for the first time since March 13, 2012 versus Dallas.
The Wild allowed the game’s first goal for the sixth time in its last seven games. That stretch comes after Minnesota opened the scoring in 10 of 11 contests.
Minnesota moved to 6-1-0 while wearing its green jerseys this season.
RW Jason Pominville made his home debut with the Wild after being acquired from Buffalo this past Wednesday.
Prior to the game, the Wild announced LW Dany Heatley underwent successful shoulder surgery today in Cleveland and will miss the remainder of the season. He is expected to be fully recovered for the start of the 2013-14 season.
The Wild will practice Wednesday at noon at Xcel Energy Center.
