Wild Postgame Notes vs. Dallas - Oct. 12
RW Justin Fontaine and D Mathew Dumba each scored their first NHL goals as Minnesota claimed a 5-1 win vs. Dallas in front of a sellout crowd of 18, 278 fans Saturday night at Xcel Energy Center. Next up, Minnesota will travel to Buffalo to take on the Sabres Monday at 6:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Network and KFAN 100.3 FM.
Fontaine’s goal 12 seconds into the game set a franchise record for the fastest Wild goal to start a game (Heatley, 13 seconds, 2/9/12).
LW Matt Cooke earned his second multi-point game with the Wild and 57th of his career with a goal and an assist in tonight’s game. He now leads the Wild with five points (3-2=5). He recorded a goal and an assist in Thursday’s game vs. Winnipeg.
The Wild has outshot its opponents in all five games this season topping the Stars 36-19. Minnesota continued a strong advantage in the middle frame, outshooting Dallas 11-6 in the second period, for a 65-25 shot advantage over its opponents in five games this season. San Jose is the only other team to not be outshot this season (Sharks host Ottawa tonight). The Wild bettered its league leading shots against total to 21.4 shots/game.
D Jared Spurgeon had two assists on the night for his sixth career multi-point game, his first since March 25 at Dallas.
LW Zach Parise scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season (4-0=4).
RW Nino Niederreiter notched his first goal with the Wild in the second period and now has three points in five games (1-2=3).
G Josh Harding made 19 saves to earn the win in his second consecutive start. He moved to 24-9-2 in starts at Xcel Energy Center, including 17-4-1 since Jan. 27, 2010, and 6-1-0 in his last seven starts in Saint Paul.
Dallas LW Jordie Benn scored his first goal of the season on a power play in the second period, while G Dan Ellis stopped 31-of-36 shots on the night.
