Wild Hosts Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night
On Tuesday Oct. 22 the Wild will host its annual Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night

The Minnesota Wild will host its annual Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night on Tuesday, Oct. 22, when the team takes on the Nashville Predators at 7 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center.

Hockey Fights Cancer Night is the culmination of the Wild’s Hockey Fights Cancer Month, which has included in-arena concourse tables for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, PCAN, Zero to End Prostate Cancer, and Movember. The Wild’s October Charity of the Month, presented by Innovate Office Solutions, is St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

On Oct. 22, the Wild will present a $5,000 check to Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota (hematology/oncology). The game will feature lavender dasher boards for cancer awareness. Wild players will use lavender tape, and all helmets will have a HFC decal. Wild coaches will wear a Hockey Fights Cancer tie.

Fans can purchase Hockey Fights Cancer t-shirts and charm bracelets, with a portion of the proceeds going to Hockey Fights Cancer. Pediatric cancer patients and organizations will be seated in donated seats and suites from Wild players and the Wild organization.

Additionally, the Wild Better Halves collected hundreds of kids pajamas during a pajama drive on Oct. 12. Those pajamas will be delivered to pediatric cancer patients later this month.

The 2013-14 season marks the 15th anniversary of Hockey Fights Cancer™, the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) joint charitable initiative dedicated to raising awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research. This month, the NHLPA and the NHL will mark this milestone with the annual Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month campaign. Over the course of 31 days this month, the NHL and NHLPA will distribute more than $200,000 in grants to national and local cancer organizations in all 30 NHL® markets, bringing the total amount Hockey Fights Cancer has donated to this important cause to approximately $13 million since its inception in 1998.
