Iowa Wild 2013-14 Record: 10-13-1-0, 21 points, Fifth Place in Midwest Division
The Iowa Wild, Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League Affiliate, went 2-1-0 in three games last week. The Wild dropped a 6-2 decision at Abbotsford on Wednesday. F Brett Bulmer (1-1=2) led the team with two points and F Erik Haula also scored while G Johan Gustafsson made 20 saves in the loss. Iowa ended its six-game road trip with a 4-2 victory at Abbotsford on Thursday. Haula (2-1=3) had three points, F Kris Foucault scored two goals and Gustafsson stopped 28-of-30 shots. The Wild earned a 3-1 victory against the Rockford IceHogs on Sunday to snap an eight-game home winless streak. Forwards Zack Phillips, Carson McMillan and Tyler Graovac scored, Raphael Bussieres had two assists and G Darcy Kuemper made 37 saves. D Brian Connelly (1-14=15) leads the Wild with 15 points while Haula (7-7=14) and D Jonathon Blum (3-11=14) have 14 points each. Bulmer (9-3=12) leads the team with nine goals. Kuemper is 6-9-0 with a 2.68 GAA and a .923 SV% in 15 matches and Gustafsson is 4-4-0 with a 2.95 GAA, a .898 SV% and one shutout in nine games. Iowa continues its six-game homestand hosting Grand Rapids on Wednesday, Hamilton on Friday and San Antonio on Saturday. For full Iowa stats, go here.
CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUES
RW Kurtis Gabriel - Owen Sound (OHL): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded an assist and four penalty minutes in three games last week. Ranks T-1st in assists (17) on Owen Sound, second in PIM (60), fourth in scoring (7-17=24) and T-6th in goals (7).
D Dylan Labbe - Shawinigan (QMJHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft scored his third goal of the season and recorded four penalty minutes in two games last week. Leads Shawinigan defensemen and ranks third on the team in assists (11), fourth in scoring (3-11=14) and sixth in PIM (16).
D Nolan De Jong - Michigan (Big Ten): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and Michigan tied Ferris State 2-2 in its only game last week (12/11), Michigan hockey will return Friday Dec. 27 to participate in the Great Lakes Invitational
D John Draeger - Michigan State (Big Ten): Minnesota’s third-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft recorded two penalty minutes in Michigan State’s 2-0 loss against Ferris State (12/14). The Spartans will return to action Friday Dec. 27 to participate in the Great Lakes Invitational.
C Adam Gilmour - Boston College (Hockey East): The Wild’s fourth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and Boston College did not play last week and will return to ice Dec. 27 to play in the Three Rivers Classic. Ranks third on the Eagles in shots on net (38).
LW Mario Lucia - Notre Dame (Hockey East): Wild’s second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and Notre Dame did not play last week and will return Jan. 4 vs. Boston College. Scored three points (2-1=3) on 12/7 earning his second two-goal game of the season and third of his career. Ranks third on the Irish in points (9-4=13) and T-2nd in power-play scoring (5-2=7).
LW Louis Nanne - Sioux Falls (USHL): Minnesota’s seventh-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft recorded three shots on net and two penalty minutes in Sioux Falls two games last week. Recorded an assist and two penalty minutes in his return to action Nov. 30 after he missed 22 games following shoulder surgery this summer.
D Gustav Olofsson - Colorado College (NCHC): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and Colorado College concluded its first half of the season with a weekend series loss at Wisconsin. The Tigers will return Jan. 4 vs. Brown. Named to Sweden’s U20 preliminary roster for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championships (12/5). Tallied three points (2-1=3) in five games, including a three-game point streak (11/19-11/23) after missing four games with a shoulder injury (10/25-11/2).
C Avery Peterson - Grand Rapids (High School): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft netted two goals in Grand Rapids’ two games last week extending his point streak to 30 games. Leads team in goals (7) and ranks T-1st in scoring (7-3=10). Collected eight points (3-5=8) including 2 PPG and a plus-3 rating in 11 games with Sioux City (USHL).
D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (NCHC):Nebraska Omaha did not play last week and will return for its second half Jan. 3 at New Hampshire. The Wild’s fifth-round selection in 2011 NHL Entry Draft is T-3rd on the Mavericks in penalty minutes (20 PIM) this season and has a goal and three assists.
D Carson Soucy - Minnesota Duluth (NCHC): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in 2013 NHL Entry Draft and Minnesota Duluth concluded its first half of the season with a weekend split vs. Western Michigan. The Bulldogs will return to action Jan. 3 in an exhibition game vs. the USA Under-18 team. Ranks T-5th on the team in assists (5) and third among defensemen in points (0-5=5).
C Christoph Bertschy - SC Bern (Swiss): The Wild’s sixth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft was named to Switzerland’s preliminary roster for world junior tournament but will not participate due to ankle injury. Ranks T-8th on the team in goals (4) and T-9th in assists (6).
D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (Sweden): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft tallied his 10th assist of the season in Lulea’s two games last week. Ranks T-4th on Lulea in assists (10), leads all defensemen and ranks T-6th on the team in scoring (1-10=11)
Alexandre Belanger - Rouyn-Noranda (QMJHL): Wild’s seventh-round selection in this summer’s 2013 NHL Entry Draft went 1-0-1 in three games last week. Ranks fifth in QMJHL in wins and 11th in GAA. Earned his first shutout of the season as the Huskies blanked Sherbrooke, 3-0 (11/16). Named QMJHL third star of the week on Oct. 28 after going 3-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and a .926 SV%.
Steve Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and Harvard did not play last week and will return to action Dec. 29 in an exhibition game against the Russian Red Stars.
