An updated look at the Wild\'s prospects and how they\'re developing

Iowa Wild 2013-14 Record: 14-14-2-2, 32 points, Fifth Place in Midwest Division

The Iowa Wild, Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, began a six-game road trip going 1-0-2 in three games last week. The Wild defeated the Rockford IceHogs in a 3-2 shootout Friday. D Brian Connelly led the night with two assists while F Tyler Graovac and D Jonathon Blum each scored in regulation. Forwards Carson McMillan, Graovac and Zack Phillips each netted a shootout goal. G Johan Gustafsson stopped 37-of-39 shots in regulation and three of four shootout attempts. Iowa suffered a 4-3 shootout loss to the Chicago Wolves Saturday. McMillan (1- 1=2) led the Wild with two points while F Erik Haula and D Kyle Medvec also scored. G John Curry made 26 saves. The Wild dropped its last contest in a 4-3 shootout loss against the Milwaukee Admirals Monday. Medvec, F Brett Bulmer and F Chad Rau each scored for the club while Gustafsson stopped 28-of-31 shots in regulation and saved three of five shootout attempts. Connelly (1-17=18) leads the Wild with 18 points while Haula (9-8=17) and Blum (4- 13=17) rank second with 17 points each. G Darcy Kuemper is 7-10-0 with a 2.47 GAA, a .929 SV% and one shutout in 17 games - his SV% ranks second in the AHL. Gustafsson is 5-5-1 with a 2.92 GAA, a .899 SV% and one shutout in 12 games. Curry is 2-1-1 with a 2.17 GAA and a .930 SV% in four games. Iowa continues its road trip with games at Grand Rapids on Friday and Saturday and at Hamilton on Sunday.

CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUES

D Matt Dumba - Portland (WHL): The Wild’s first-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft was loaned to Portland Jan. 7 after totaling a goal and an assist in 13 games with Minnesota. Totaled assist, plus-4 rating in seven games as alternate captain as Canada finished 4th at 2014 World Junior Championship in Sweden.

RW Kurtis Gabriel - Owen Sound (OHL): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied assists in three games last week. Ranks second in assists (19) on Owen Sound, second in PIM (60), fourth in scoring (9-19=28) and T-4th in goals (9). Named an assistant captain (10/15).

D Dylan Labbe - Shawinigan (QMJHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded a goal in two games last week. Leads Shawinigan defensemen and ranks third on the team in assists (12) and T-4th in scoring (5-12=17).

COLLEGE/USHL

D Nolan De Jong - Michigan (Big Ten): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and Michigan did not play last week. They will return to action Jan. 10 at Wisconsin.

D John Draeger - Michigan State (Big Ten): Michigan State did not play last week and will begin its second half Jan. 3 at Ohio State. The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2012 Entry Draft missed nine games due to an abdominal injury (10/9- 11/9).

C Adam Gilmour - Boston College (Hockey East): The Wild’s fourth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft tallied an assist in Boston College 4-3 victory over Notre Dame at Fenway Park. Ranks sixth on the Eagles in shots on net (40).

LW Mario Lucia - Notre Dame (Hockey East): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft netted a goal in Notre Dame’s 4-3 defeat at Frozen Fenway against Boston College Jan. 4. Scored three points (2-1=3) on Dec. 7 earning his second two-goal game of the season and third of his career. Ranks T-2nd on the Irish in points (14) and in power-play scoring (5-2=7).

LW Louis Nanne - Sioux Falls (USHL): Minnesota’s seventh-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft recorded an assist and two penalty minutes in Sioux Falls three games last week. Tallied an assist and two PIM in his return to action Nov. 30 after he missed 22 games following shoulder surgery this summer.

D Gustav Olofsson - Colorado College (NCHC): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied five points (1-4=5) and a plus-5 rating in seven games to help Sweden claim a silver medal at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Malmo, Sweden. He ranked T-2nd in scoring amongst defensemen in the tournament. Recorded three points (2-1=3) in five games, including a three-game point streak (11/19-11/23) after missing four games with a shoulder injury (10/25-11/2).

C Avery Peterson - Grand Rapids (High School): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded eight points (4-4=8) in two games last week extending his point streak to 38 games. Tied a career-high of four goals in a game, his second of the season, while setting a new career high of six points (4-2=6) in a single game Jan. 4. Registered four goals, including two PPGs in the Thunderhawks 7-2 victory over St. Francis Dec. 27. Leads team in goals, assists and scoring. Collected eight points (3-5=8) including 2 PPG and a plus-3 rating in 11 games with Sioux City (USHL).

D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (NCHC): The Wild’s fifth-round selection in 2011 NHL Entry Draft recorded 21 penalty minutes in two games as Nebraska Omaha dropped its weekend series at New Hampshire. Ranks first on the Mavericks in PIM (41) this season.

D Carson Soucy - Minnesota Duluth (NCHC): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in 2013 NHL Entry Draft did not play in Minnesota Duluth 7-0 victory against the USA Under-18 team in an exhibition game Jan. 3. Ranks T-5th on the team in assists (5) and third among defensemen in points (0-5=5).

EUROPE

C Christoph Bertschy - SC Bern (Swiss): The Wild’s sixth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft is currently sidelined with an ankle injury. Named to Switzerland’s preliminary roster for world junior tournament but did not participate due to injury.

D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (Sweden): Lulea did not play last week. Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft leads all defensemen and ranks T-5th on the team in assists (10) and T-6th in scoring (1-10=11).

GOALTENDERS

Alexandre Belanger - Rouyn-Noranda (QMJHL): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in this summer’s 2013 NHL Entry Draft won his sole start last week as the Huskies defeated Drummondville 5-3. Ranks T-2nd in QMJHL in wins (20) and 15th in GAA (3.27). Earned first shutout of the season as the Huskies blanked Sherbrooke, 3-0 (11/16). Named QMJHL third star of the week on Oct. 28 after going 3-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and a .926 SV%.

Steve Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft did not play in Harvard’s two games last week.
