An updated look at the Wild\'s prospects and how they\'re developing

Iowa Wild 2013-14 Record: 19-16-5-3, 46 points, Fifth Place in Midwest Division

The Iowa Wild, Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, suffered two overtime losses last weekend. The Wild fell 3-2 in overtime against the Milwaukee Admirals at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday. D Jonathon Blum tallied two assists while Forwards Jim McKenzie and Carson McMillian each scored. G Johan Gustafsson stopped 27- of-30 shots through overtime. Iowa dropped its second contest with a 3-2 overtime loss against the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena on Saturday. McMillian led the night with two assists and F Warren Peters scored while F Zack Phillips netted a goal with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Gustafsson made 26 saves in the loss. D Brian Connelly leads the Wild with 26 points (3-23=26) this season. McMillan is second with 22 points (10- 12=22) and Blum ranks third with 21 points (5-16=21). Phillips is fourth with 20 points (8-12=20). Gustafsson is 8-9- 2 with a 2.81 GAA, a .910 SV% and one shutout in 20 games. G John Curry is 4-2-1 with a 1.81 GAA, .944 SV% and one shutout in seven games. Iowa will play home games against Utica on Wednesday and Chicago on Friday before traveling to Rockford to face the IceHogs on Saturday.

CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUES

D Matt Dumba - Portland (WHL): The Wild’s first-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft tallied two assists and a plus-7 rating in three games last week. Loaned to Portland Jan. 7 after totaling goal and assist in 13 games with Minnesota. Expected to play this weekend for Winterhawks. Totaled an assist, a plus-4 rating in seven games as alternate captain as Canada finished fourth at 2014 World Junior Championship in Sweden.

RW Kurtis Gabriel - Owen Sound (OHL): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded four PIM in two games. Ranks T-1st on the team in assists (22), second in PIM (70) and fourth in scoring (9-22=31). Named an assistant captain (10/15).

D Dylan Labbe - Shawinigan (QMJHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and Shawinigan went 2-1-0 in three games last week. Leads the team’s defensemen and ranks T-2nd on the team in assists (16) and scoring (7-16=23).

COLLEGE/USHL

D Nolan De Jong - Michigan (Big Ten): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded two shots on net as Michigan went 1-0-1 in its weekend series versus Wisconsin.

D John Draeger - Michigan State (Big Ten): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2012 Entry Draft earned two PIM and a plus-2 rating in weekend series at Minnesota (0-1- 1). Missed nine games due to an abdominal injury (10/9-11/9).

C Adam Gilmour - Boston College (Hockey East): The Wild’s fourth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft tallied two PIM in two games last week. Boston College is 12-0-1 in its last 13 games. Ranks third on the Eagles in GWG (3) and T-3rd in PPG (3).

LW Mario Lucia - Notre Dame (Hockey East): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft recorded three points (2-1=3) in weekend series at New Hampshire. Scored three points (2-1=3) on Dec. 7 earning his second two-goal game of the season and third of his career. Ranks second on the Irish in points (15-10=25) and second in power-play scoring (7-3=10).

LW Louis Nanne - Sioux Falls (USHL): Minnesota’s seventh-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and Sioux Falls went 2-1-0 in three games last week. Tallied an assist and two PIM in his return to action Nov. 30 after he missed 22 games following shoulder surgery this summer.

D Gustav Olofsson - Colorado College (NCHC): Colorado College did not play last week. The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied five points (1-4=5) and a plus-5 rating in seven games to help Sweden claim a silver medal at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Malmo, Sweden. Ranked T-2nd in scoring amongst defensemen in the tournament. Recorded three points (2-1=3) in five games, including a three-game point streak (11/19-11/23) after missing four games with a shoulder injury (10/25-11/2).

C Avery Peterson - Grand Rapids (High School): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded nine points (4-5=9) in three games last week. Finalist for Minnesota’s Mr. Hockey Award. Had his 38-game point streak end as the Thunderhawks suffered a 5-0 shutout loss to Duluth East (1/9). Tied a career-high of four goals in a game, while setting a new career high of six points (4-2=6) in a single game Jan. 4. Registered four goals, including two PPGs in the Thunderhawks 7-2 victory over St. Francis Dec. 27. Leads team in goals (30), assists (25) and scoring (30-25=55). Collected eight points (3-5=8) including 2 PPG and a plus-3 rating in 11 games with Sioux City (USHL).

D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (NCHC): The Wild’s fifth-round selection in 2011 NHL Entry Draft recorded his third goal of season and a plus-4 rating in weekend split versus St. Cloud State. Ranks first on the Mavericks in PIM (47) this season.

D Carson Soucy - Minnesota Duluth (NCHC): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied 15 PIM as Minnesota Duluth won its weekend series at Western Michigan. Ranks T-3rd among defensemen in points (0-5=5).

EUROPE

C Christoph Bertschy - SC Bern (Swiss): The Wild’s sixth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft netted two goals in two games last week. Missed 13 games due to an ankle injury (12/6-1/18). Named to Switzerland’s preliminary roster for world junior tournament but did not participate due to injury.

D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (Sweden): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft did not play in Lulea’s three games last week. Leads all defensemen and ranks sixth on the team in assists (11) and T-8th in scoring (2-11=13).

GOALTENDERS

Alexandre Belanger - Rouyn-Noranda (QMJHL): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in this summer’s 2013 NHL Entry Draft won his sole start last week, allowing one goal on 16 shots. Ranks T-5th in QMJHL in wins (23) and 11th in GAA (3.14). Earned first shutout of the season as the Huskies blanked Sherbrooke, 3-0 (11/16). Named QMJHL third star of the week on Oct. 28 after going 3-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and a .926 SV%.

Steve Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft came into relief for the third period, stopping 10-of-11 shots as Harvard lost 6-0 vs. Northeastern (2/3).
