Iowa Wild 2013-14 Record: 20-17-5-4, 49 points, Fifth Place in Midwest Division
The Iowa Wild, Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, went 1-2-1 in four games last week. The Wild suffered a 3-2 overtime loss against the Rochester Americans on Wednesday at Blue Cross Arena. LW Erik Haula netted both of Iowa’s goals as F Raphael Bussieres, LW Stephane Veilleux, D Steven Kampfer and C Zack Phillips each tallied an assist. G John Curry stopped 31-of-34 shots through overtime. Iowa defeated the Lake Erie Monsters with a 2-1 shootout victory Friday at Quicken Loans Arena. Kampfer tallied the regulation goal with assists from LW Brett Bulmer and D Brian Connelly. F Carson McMillan scored the shootout winner. Curry made 33 saves through overtime and stopped all four shootout attempts. The Wild dropped its second contest against the Monsters, 3-2, Saturday night in Cleveland. Connelly and LW Kris Foucault scored and F Tyler Graovac, Haula and Bussieres assisted. G Johan Gustafsson made 29 saves in the loss. Iowa suffered a 4-1 loss against the Rockford IceHogs Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Blum scored the lone goal and Phillips and D Tyler Cuma assisted. Curry stopped 33-of-37 shots in the loss. D Brian Connelly leads the Wild with 32 points (5-27=32) this season. Haula ranks second with 27 points (14-13=27) while Blum is third with 26 points (7-19=26). Gustafsson is 8-12-2 with a 3.10 GAA, a .903 SV% and one shutout in 24 games. Curry is 7-5-2 with a 2.08 GAA, .935 SV% and one shutout in 15 games. Iowa hosts the Rochester Americans on Thursday and then plays at Milwaukee on Friday and at Chicago on Sunday.
CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUES
D Matt Dumba - Portland (WHL): The Wild’s first-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft recorded two points (1-1=2), a plus-3 rating and four PIM in three games last week. Loaned to Portland Jan. 7 after totaling goal and assist in 13 games with Minnesota. Expected to play this weekend for Winterhawks. Totaled an assist, a plus-4 rating in seven games as alternate captain as Canada finished fourth at 2014 World Junior Championship in Sweden.
RW Kurtis Gabriel - Owen Sound (OHL): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied two assists and five PIM in three games last week. The assistant captain ranks first on the team in assists (29), T-2nd in PIM (84) and third in scoring (10-29=39).
D Dylan Labbe - Shawinigan (QMJHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded two shots in Shawinigan’s lone game last week. Leads all defensemen and ranks third on the team in scoring (8-16=24) and in assists (16).
D Nolan De Jong - Michigan (Big Ten): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and Michigan went 1-0-1 vs. Penn State last weekend.
D John Draeger - Michigan State (Big Ten): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2012 Entry Draft tallied two PIM and two shots as Michigan State dropped its weekend series at Wisconsin last weekend. Missed four games due to injury (1/10-1/18). Missed nine games due to an abdominal injury (10/9-11/9).
C Adam Gilmour - Boston College (Hockey East): The Wild’s fourth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft netted goal in two games as Boston went 1-0-1 in its home-and-home series against U. Mass Lowell. Boston College is 17-0-2 in its last 19 games. Ranks third in PPG (4) and fourth in GWG (3).
LW Mario Lucia - Notre Dame (Hockey East): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and Notre Dame swept its weekend series vs. Boston University. Scored three points (2-1=3) on Dec. 7 earning his second two-goal game of the season and third career. Ranks T-2nd on the Irish in points (15-12=27) and second in power-play scoring (7-4=11).
LW Louis Nanne - Sioux Falls (USHL): Minnesota’s seventh-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft scored two points (1-1=2) in two games last week. Has recorded four points in season-high three-game point streak (2-2=4) Feb. 16-22. Tallied an assist and two PIM in his return to action Nov. 30 after he missed 22 games following shoulder surgery this summer.
D Gustav Olofsson - Colorado College (NCHC): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded two PIM and five shots as Colorado College won its home-and-home series against Denver last weekend.Tallied five points (1-4=5) and a plus-5 rating in seven games to help Sweden claim a silver medal at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Malmo, Sweden. Ranked T-2nd in scoring amongst defensemen in the tournament. Recorded three points (2-1=3) in five games, including a three-game point streak (11/19-11/23) after missing four games with a shoulder injury (10/25-11/2).
C Avery Peterson - Grand Rapids (High School): Grand Rapids lost 5-2 to Duluth East in the section 7AA semifinals. Finalist for Minnesota’s Mr. Hockey Award. Led team in goals (37), assists (30) and points (37-30=67) in 27 games. Had his 38-game point streak end as the Thunderhawks suffered a 5-0 shutout loss to Duluth East (1/9). Tied a career-high of four goals in a game, while setting a new career high of six points (4-2=6) in a single game Jan. 4. Registered four goals, including two PPGs in the Thunderhawks 7-2 victory over St. Francis Dec. 27. Collected eight points (3-5=8) including 2 PPG and a plus-3 rating in 11 games with Sioux City (USHL).
D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (NCHC): The Wild’s fifth-round selection in 2011 NHL Entry Draft recorded two PIM as Nebraska Omaha split its weekend series at Western Michigan. Ranks first on the Mavericks in PIM (51).
D Carson Soucy - Minnesota Duluth (NCHC): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied two PIM and three shots as Minnesota Duluth dropped its weekend series vs. North Dakota last weekend. Ranks second in PIM (54) and fourth amongst defensemen in scoring (0-5=5).
C Christoph Bertschy - SC Bern (Swiss): The Wild’s sixth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft tallied assist in SC Bern’s lone game last week. Missed 13 games due to an ankle injury (12/6-1/18). Named to Switzerland’s preliminary roster for world junior tournament but did not participate due to injury.
D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (Sweden): Lulea did not play last week. Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft has not played in Lulea’s last six games. Ranks T-2nd amongst defensemen and ranks sixth on the team in assists (11) and T-9th in scoring (2-11=13).
Alexandre Belanger - Rouyn-Noranda (QMJHL): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in this summer’s 2013 NHL Entry Draft went 1-2-0 in three games last week. Ranks fifth in QMJHL in wins (27) and 12th in GAA (3.23). Earned first shutout of the season as the Huskies blanked Sherbrooke, 3-0 (11/16). Named QMJHL third star of the week on Oct. 28 after going 3-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and a .926 SV%.
Steve Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft took the loss in Harvard’s 5-2 defeat against Yale (2/21). In his last five starts, Michalek has posted a 3-1-1 record with a 1.55 GAA and a .942 SV% with two shutouts (2/7-2/21).
