Iowa Wild 2013-14 Record: 22-24-6-4, 54 points, Fifth Place in Midwest Division
The Iowa Wild, the Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, dropped four games last week. The Wild suffered a 4-1 loss against the Rockford IceHogs Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. D Jonathon Blum scored the lone goal as C Zack Phillips and D Tyler Cuma assisted. G John Curry stopped 33-of-37 shots. Iowa lost its second match at home on Thursday, 4-2, against the Rochester Americans. F Tyler Graovac and Phillips each scored for the club while Cuma and G Johan Gustafsson assisted. Gustafsson made 31 saves. The Wild fell, 9-1, to the Milwaukee Admirals at Bradley Center on Friday. D Zach Miskovic scored for Iowa while G Hannu Toivonen started the game allowing eight goals on 25 shots through two periods of work. Gustafsson stopped four-of-five shots in relief. Iowa suffered a 4-0 shutout loss against the Chicago Wolves Sunday at Allstate Arena. Curry made 26 saves in the loss. LW Brad Winchester leads the Wild with 30 points (16-14=30) this season. Phillips (10-16=26) and Blum (7-19=26) are tied for second with 26 points each. C Carson McMillan is fourth with 24 points (11-13=24). Gustafsson is 8-13-2 with a 3.10 GAA, a .902 SV% and one shutout in 26 games. Curry is 7-6-2 with a 2.20 GAA, a .931 SV% and one shutout in 16 games. The Wild continues its five-game road trip, traveling to Grand Rapids for back-to-back contests against the Griffins on Friday and Saturday this week.
CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUES
D Matt Dumba - Portland (WHL): The Wild’s first-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft recorded two points (1-1=2) and the Winterhawks went 1-1-0 in two games last week. Loaned to Portland Jan. 7 after totaling goal and assist in 13 games with Minnesota. Expected to play this weekend for Winterhawks. Totaled an assist, a plus-4 rating in seven games as alternate captain as Canada finished fourth at 2014 World Junior Championship in Sweden.
RW Kurtis Gabriel - Owen Sound (OHL): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft signed a three-year, entry level contract with the Wild Monday. Recorded three points (2-1=3) and two PIM in three games. Assistant captain ranks first on the team in assists (30), third in PIM (86) and in scoring (12-30=42).
D Dylan Labbe - Shawinigan (QMJHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied an assist in Shawinigan two games last week. Leads all defensemen and ranks third on the team in scoring (8-17=25) and in assists (17).
D Nolan De Jong - Michigan (Big Ten): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and Michigan won and tied Ohio State in its home-and-home series last weekend.
D John Draeger - Michigan State (Big Ten): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2012 Entry Draft Michigan State suffered a 4-3 loss in its exhibition game against the USA Under-18 team (3/1). Missed four games due to injury (1/10-1/18). Missed nine games due to an abdominal injury (10/9-11/9).
C Adam Gilmour - Boston College (Hockey East): The Wild’s fourth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and Boston College dropped its sole game last week 2-1 versus Notre Dame (3/1). Boston College is 17-1-2 in its last 20 games. Ranks third in PPG (4) and fourth in GWG (3).
LW Mario Lucia - Notre Dame (Hockey East): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft recorded assist and two PIM in Notre Dame’s 2-1 victory at Boston College (3/1). Scored three points (2-1=3) on Dec. 7 earning his second two-goal game of the season and third career. Ranks T-2nd on the Irish in points (15-13=28) and in power-play scoring (7-4=11).
LW Louis Nanne - Sioux Falls (USHL): Minnesota’s seventh-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft tallied a shot in Sioux Falls 3-2 win at Sioux City (3/1). Has recorded four points in season-high three-game point streak (2-2=4) Feb. 16-22. Tallied an assist and two PIM in his return to action Nov. 30 after he missed 22 games following shoulder surgery this summer.
D Gustav Olofsson - Colorado College (NCHC): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded two shots and two PIM as Colorado College went 0-1-1 in its weekend series at Nebraska Omaha.Tallied five points (1-4=5) and a plus-5 rating in seven games to help Sweden claim a silver medal at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Malmo, Sweden. Ranked T-2nd in scoring amongst defensemen in the tournament. Recorded three points (2-1=3) in five games, including a three-game point streak (11/19-11/23) after missing four games with a shoulder injury (10/25-11/2).
C Avery Peterson - Grand Rapids (High School): Grand Rapids lost 5-2 to Duluth East in the section 7AA semifinals. Finalist for Minnesota’s Mr. Hockey Award. Led team in goals (37), assists (30) and points (37-30=67) in 27 games. Had his 38-game point streak end as the Thunderhawks suffered a 5-0 shutout loss to Duluth East (1/9). Tied a career-high of four goals in a game, while setting a new career high of six points (4-2=6) in a single game Jan. 4. Registered four goals, including two PPGs in the Thunderhawks 7-2 victory over St. Francis Dec. 27. Collected eight points (3-5=8) including 2 PPG and a plus-3 rating in 11 games with Sioux City (USHL).
D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (NCHC): The Wild’s fifth-round selection in 2011 NHL Entry Draft tallied an assist, a plus-2 rating and two PIM as Nebraska Omaha won its weekend series versus Colorado College. Ranks first on the Mavericks in PIM (53).
D Carson Soucy - Minnesota Duluth (NCHC): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded two PIM and seven shots as Minnesota Duluth won its weekend series at Miami last weekend. Ranks second in PIM (56) and fourth amongst defensemen in scoring (0-5=5).
C Christoph Bertschy - SC Bern (Swiss): The Wild’s sixth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft tallied an assist in three games last week. Missed 13 games due to an ankle injury (12/6-1/18). Named to Switzerland’s preliminary roster for world junior tournament but did not participate due to injury.
D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (Sweden): Lulea did not play last week. Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft returned to action, recording 11 shots in four games last week. Missed six games (Jan. 28-Feb. 8). Ranks T-2nd amongst defensemen and ranks sixth on the team in assists (11) and 10th in scoring (2-11=13).
Alexandre Belanger - Rouyn-Noranda (QMJHL): Rouyn-Noranda dropped its sole game last week. The Wild’s seventh-round selection in this summer’s 2013 NHL Entry Draft ranks T-6th in QMJHL in wins (27) and 13th in GAA (3.25). Earned first shutout of the season as the Huskies blanked Sherbrooke, 3-0 (11/16). Named QMJHL third star of the week on Oct. 28 after going 3-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and a .926 SV%.
Steve Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft went 1-0-1 in two starts last week. In his last seven starts, Michalek has posted a 4-1-2 record with a 1.66 GAA and a .940 SV% with two shutouts (2/7-3/1).
