Vote On Last Week\'s Top Plays

Last year, wanted help from our fans in the State of Hockey and beyond to help us select the Top Play of the Year. To do so, we needed you to pick the Top Play each week, so we could pit them against each other in the offseason in a single-elimination tournament. Last year's winner was Jason Zucker's first-career goals against Detroit. We had so much fun, we're going to do it again this year.

This season, we're getting help selecting the top play each week from our friends at Dairy Queen. For the second-straight week, Jason Pominville earns the Play of the Week nod, this time getting a little help from his lineman, Zach Parise, against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Parise raced down the length of the rink to negate icing, then made a perfect saucer pass over the side of the net to a streaking Pominville, who buried a one-timer.

Up this week, we have three new nominees. Up first, Jared Spurgeon might be the smallest player on the Wild's blue line, but he has a rocket launcher of a shot. Against the Islanders, Spurgeon takes a pass from Dany Heatley and hammers home a shot from the top of the circle, off the crossbar and in.

Up next, Mikko Koivu becomes the all-time Wild leader in points on a second assist to Justin Fontaine. Koivu starts the rush in his own end, head-mans a pass to Matt Moulson, who gets it to Fontaine entering the zone. In realtime, it looked like Fontaine hit the post and crossbar, but after a review showed the puck, in fact, hit the back of the net, he was awarded a goal and Koivu set the all-time mark on the play.

Last but not least is forward Charlie Coyle with a penalty-shot dangle against Detroit. Coyle was taken down on a rush, preventing a scoring chance so he was awarded a penalty shot. As Coyle walks in, it looks as if the puck is going to hop his stick, but he remains calm and makes a beautiful forehand-backhand-forehand move to beat Jimmy Howard. He then hops in celebration, which is a nice touch to the play.
