Wild.com has selected G Niklas Backstrom as the Minnesalsa Player of the Week for November 6 through November 12. Backstrom was 2-0-1 during the week, and was 13 seconds away from a perfect three wins. On Tuesday night, Backstrom earned his 100th career victory in a 37-save performance against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Facing highly touted rookie Jonas Gustavsson, Backstrom showed why he’s been one of the best NHL goaltenders over the past four seasons, especially during a late two-man Toronto advantage. Prior to Tuesday, Backstrom stopped 19 of 21 shots in a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars. Through 16 games, Backstrom has now posted a 2.60 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.
Backstrom is the first two-time winner of the coveted pepper this season, meaning he stands alone in first place.
For the remainder of the season, a Wild.com panel will be selecting the Minnesalsa Player of the Week. The player selected as the player of the week will win the Minnesalsa pepper for the week. We will keep track of the standings right here on Wild.com.
