Wes Walz Minnesota Wild Hockey School
General Skills Camp for Boys and Girls

Mites/U8, Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, U12

Monday, August 26 - Friday, August 30, 2013
National Sports Center – Blaine, Minnesota

Autograph and Q & A sessions featuring Minnesota Wild players

The Wes Walz Minnesota Wild Hockey School is dedicated to a productive week of hockey for boys and girls of all ages. Our goal is to create a program in which a player can be challenged to work on general hockey skills. All activities are directed toward the skater’s development as a hockey player and a person. We will discuss the importance of learning these skills and demonstrate why they are important to practice beyond this hockey school. Our staff is eager to work with you and create a positive, challenging atmosphere that makes learning fun.

Wes Walz,
Director of Minnesota Wild Hockey School

The Skater Development Program consists of skating, stick-handling, passing, shooting, scoring, and agility training.  Wes Walz and other staff members will be ready to assist players by showing the proper form for each skill by demonstration. Each player will have the opportunity to watch our staff demonstrate a skill and then practice that same skill with professional teaching and assessment.

The training sessions will be broken out into stations. At each station, skaters will have the opportunity for multiple repetitions at that skill. It is our professional opinion that repetition of these skills will help each player gain the confidence to perform each skill taught.

The great game of hockey is a team sport.  We want you to take what you have learned in our Skater Development Program and apply it to a game. Our curriculum will cover this several ways. Our games are not all full ice. We have created several games that will be played 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and of course 5v5. These games will help a player learn when to keep the puck and when to pass the puck. The games will be full speed but we will take the time to stop and give feedback to the players. With the help of our staff, we will help you become a “gamer”.

The Herb Brooks Training Center will be the home for most all of our off-ice training sessions. The facility will allow each player to train at a state of the art facility. Our programs will offer quickness and agility sessions, plyometrics, and aerobic training. Shooting stations will be set up for technique and accuracy.

The Schwan Super Rink will be the arena for all on-ice training. On-ice training sessions will consist of general skill training.   Our staff will demonstrate, teach, and educate the importance of mastering these skills. SKATING – SPEED – STICKHANDLING – PASSING – BODY CONTACT – SHOOTING – SCORING – GAME STRATEGY

Wes Walz, Director of Minnesota Wild Hockey School, is working with top coaches from around the state of Minnesota. These coaches will bring unique training methods and will provide a great experience to all skaters and goalies.
