Mission Statement:
River Valley Riders provides horse related activities including therapeutic riding and driving to children and adults by addressing needs in the areas of physical, sensory, neurological, and/or mental health.

River Valley Riders Overview:
RVR was founded in 1999 by several dedicated volunteers who saw the positive therapeutic effects of horseback riding and carriage driving for people with disabilities. As a result, RVR has provided new opportunities for 133 children and adults during our twelve year history. Currently, RVR provides weekly therapeutic riding and driving lesions for 45 participants from April to October.
In acknowledging the need for increased programs to serve the community, the RVR Board of Directors purchased 38 acres in Afton, Minnesota. In order to use this land for therapeutic riding and driving lessons, an outdoor arena, a driveway and parking area were built to make it accessible.

Our goals are:
  • To increase rider participation
  • To increase partnerships in the community
  • To increase revenue to enable the building and maintaining of an indoor arena, barn, and classrooms
The purpose of RVR is to improve the quality of life for our clients by providing physical, cognitive and emotional benefits through interaction with the horse. In addition, the EVE Board strives to offer quality services to an increased population in need of these activities. The importance of RVR is that it is estimated that one in five families with children in Minnesota has a children with special healthcare needs.

Resources for these families are limited. RVR has received over 200 requests to provide services, which exceeds our current capacity of 45 participants per week. RVR serves children and adults with conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Developmental delay, visual impairments, emotional challenges, as well as other types of disabilities. Our clients are challenged with physical, social and psychological limitations including motor skill difficulties, underdeveloped social skills, communication barriers, and limited sensory abilities.
