Just a day after signing 300-goal scorer, Petr Sykora, the Minnesota Wild welcomes the Columbus Blue Jackets to Xcel Energy Center (Tickets available) for the first preseason home game of the 2009-10 season.
Coach Richards was more than excited to talk about what he would like to see on the ice: “We’re still working on things. Hopefully it will be more entertaining, more energetic. We’ve got some players [In tonight’s game vs Columbus] that can make plays. Guys that can bring energy like the Clutterbucks and the Boogaards. I know that those are fan favorites so I know [our fans] will be looking forward to that.”
“We’ll get a chance to see Brent Burns play. And I know, just watching him in practice, I think he’s real excited about playing the first game. So it’s going to be, basically, open up the barn doors and let the horse run.”
Coach Richards was happy with the effort displayed in the team’s 3-1 loss to St. Louis Tuesday, but would like to see some more progress in learning his new ‘aggressive’ style of hockey, “Taking steps in the right direction. Obviously, I’d like to see some major steps taken, but I don’t know if it will be that way.”
There will be a lot of exciting names out on the ice tonight, many of which will headline the Wild’s roster this season and some that will be here for good in the near future. All the preseason action begins tonight at 7 p.m. CDT at Xcel Energy Center.
