GAMEDAY: Wild at Red Wings
Minnesota Wild vs. Detroit Red Wings

Minnesota Wild (16-10-2: 34 points, 3rd in Western Conference, 1st in Northwest Division) at Detroit Red Wings (14-10-5: 33 points, 7th in Western Conference, 3rd in Central Division)
The Minnesota Wild closes out a three-game road trip tonight in one of the one of the few remaining National Hockey League cathedrals against one of the Original Six teams. The Wild looks for its first regulation win in seven years in Joe Louis Arena against the Detroit Red Wings tonight. The last time the Wild took a game in regulation in Detroit was Jan. 3, 2006. Since then, the Wild has two victories in overtime and one in a shootout in the Red Wings’ home barn.

This season, the teams have split the series thus far, each winning on home ice. Detroit won the first meeting, 5-3, on Jan. 25, while the Wild took its home game, 3-2, on Feb. 17.

The Wild is riding high, currently on a three-game win streak, and holds a three-game road win streak as well. Contributing to the team’s recent success has been a stingy short-handed unit. The Wild has been perfect on the penalty kill in 10 of its last 14 games, killing 34-of-38 (89.5 percent) chances in that stretch. Minnesota’s penalty kills ranks fifth in the league (85.9 percent). The club has been disciplined on the road, yielding just 35 shorthanded chances in 14 games.

The Wild ended a lengthy road drought in Vancouver on Monday and looks to do the same here in Detroit tonight. Minnesota topped the Canucks in Rogers Arena, 3-1, for the first time since 2009. Vancouver was on the board first, but Jonas Brodin answered with a power play goal, his second tally of the year. With the score tied in the third period, 1-1, Charlie redirected the eventual game winner on a Clayton Stoner point shot for his third of the season. Matt Cullen added an insurance goal and Niklas Backstrom made 35 saves for the win.

In its last outing, the Wings toppled the Canucks, 5-3. Henrik Zetterberg and Justin Abdelkader each scored twice for the Wings. For Zetterberg, the pair ended a nine-game goal drought. Daniel Cleary added a goal for Detroit, his sixth of the season. Jimmy Howard made 27 saves for the win.
Meet The Wings If You're Going
Pavel Datsyuk has five points in two meetings with Minnesota this season. The winger is riding a four-game point streak after his three-assist performance Saturday against the Canucks. Zetterberg’s two-goal outburst against the Canucks ended a nine-game goalless drought. Tonight at Joe Louis Arena is Going Green Night, but it doesn’t have anything to do with the Wild’s Forrest Green. The first 5,000 fans will receive a Lunch Cooler sponsored by DTE Energy.

The Wild will wear its WHITE sweaters tonight.
Who's Hot Gameday Media
Pierre-Marc Bouchard is on a three-game point streak since rejoining the Wild lineup. The winger has five points (1-4=5) during the stretch and has scored two points in each of his last two games.

Fans can guess who's going to be hot with the Wild's HotBox Fantasy Challenge presented by the Pioneer Press for a chance to win great prizes.

Probably Wild Lineup Between The Pipes
If Mike Rupp is still unavailable, it will keep the same lineup:

The D-pairs will remain the same if Tom Gilbert is unable to go:

Niklas Backstrom made a season-high 35 saves Monday. Backstrom is 11-3-1 in his last 15 games, posting a 2.12 GAA, a .922 SV% and allowing two goals or less 10 times in that span. Backstrom has started 12 of the team’s last 13 games and played in his 350th game Monday. Since 2/9, Backstrom leads the NHL with 11 wins.

It’s fun to be on the bench and listen to the guys talk and say the things that they’re saying. It’s a good focus right now.

- Yeo about being on the bench during its current stretch
Mike Rupp missed last game with a lower body injury and is considered day-to-day. Tom Gilbert has an undisclosed injury and is also day-to-day.

Goaltender Josh Harding (treatment for multiple sclerosis) is on Injured Reserve.
Honorary State of Hockey Resident Worthless Stat
Patrick Eaves attended high school at Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Faribault. The Wild scored six goals Saturday (6-3 at COL) for the first time since 1/19/11, a 6-0 win in Calgary. Minnesota has scored four or more goals even times this season, including in five of the last 10 games. During that nine-game stretch (since Feb. 28), Minnesota ranks T-6th in the NHL at 3.60 goals per game.
