GAMEDAY: Wild at Stars
Minnesota Wild vs. Dallas Stars

Minnesota Wild (20-10-2: 42 points, 4th in Western Conference, 2nd in Northwest Division) at Dallas Stars  (15-14-3: 33 points, T-10th in Western Conference, T-4th in Pacific Division)
The Minnesota Wild keeps on rolling like a freight train and looks for its eighth-straight win, tonight against the Dallas Stars. It is the second time the teams have met in a week and final of three meetings this season. The Wild has won both games in the series thus far, a 1-0 win at home on Jan. 20 and Monday’s 7-4 win at American Airlines Center.

Monday’s win against the Stars was the Wild’s first win in Dallas in more than 10 years (March 21, 2003), breaking a streak of 16 losses (0-11-5). In the win, a franchise-record eight players recorded multi-point games. Minnesota scored six even-strength goals for the seventh time in team history, becoming just the fourth team to score seven in Dallas since the 1997-98 season.

Tonight’s contest will be broadcast on FOX Sports North PLUS with a start time of 7:30 p.m. State of Hockey Time. Check out the viewing guide to find the television channel in your area.

Minnesota will have to do something it hasn’t been tasked with doing on its current winning streak: win without goaltender Niklas Backstrom. After starting 16 of the Wild’s previous 17 games, the backstop will have the day off and did not travel with the team.

Yesterday, the Wild recalled netminder Matt Hackett from Houston of the American Hockey League. It is his second stint with Minnesota this season, but is yet to play a game with the Wild. He'll get the nod in net tonight. Last season, Hackett set an NHL record for the longest shutout streak to start a career at 102:48.

Minnesota also reassigned forward Jake Dowell to Houston yesterday.

The Wild continues to find ways to win games, Wednesday taking a thriller in overtime against the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-3. Captain Mikko Koivu scored the winner after Ryan Suter sent it to the extra frame with less than a minute remaining in regulation. Torrey Mitchell opened the scoring for the Wild in the first period and tallied his sixth of the season. Backstrom made 24 saves for the win.

A quirk in the schedule, the Stars’ last game was a 7-4 loss to the Wild on Monday. Alex Goligoski, Jaromir Jagr, Trevor Daley and Philip Larsen were the goal scorers for Dallas. Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves in the losing effort.
Meet The South Stars If You're Going
Jaromir Jagr is one assist away from earning his 1,000th career NHL assist. He’ll be the 12th player in the history of the NHL to reach that mark and the first European-born player to ever reach 1,000 helpers. After a big Wild win, fans can head to Sfuzzi Uptown and rub it in the face of Stars fans. Sfuzzi is Dallas’ Official Post Game destination and your ticket stub will get you a $5 dollar pizzas.

The Wild will wear its WHITE sweaters tonight.
Who's Hot Gameday Media
Mikko Koivu leads the Wild with 30 points (9-21=30) this season, including eight (3-5=8) in a season-best, five-game point streak. The Wild Captain netted his third career overtime winner Wednesday, earning his third GWG of the season – all in the last seven games.

Fans can guess who's going to be hot with the Wild's HotBox Fantasy Challenge presented by the Pioneer Press for a chance to win great prizes.
