GAMEDAY: Wild at Washington
Minnesota Wild vs. Washington Capitals
Minnesota Wild (9-4-3: 21 points, 7th in Western Conference, 3rd in Central Division) at Washington Capitals (8-7-0: 16 points, 7th in Eastern Conference, 2nd in Metropolitain Division)
A pair of hot teams riding three-game winning streaks meet tonight at Verizon Center, part of a unique night in the Twin Cities sports teams. While the Wild is in DC to face the Caps, the Vikings are at home to face the nation’s capital’s Redskins.

The Wild has won its last two by a combined eight goals, including a 5-1 route of the Flames on Tuesday. Jason Pominville enters tonight’s game with 199 career goals — 10 this season with the Wild — while Josh Harding rides a career-high five-game winning streak into tonight’s contest. Harding is expected to face fellow Saskatchewan native Braden Holtby in net tonight.

Minnesota is 4-2-1 this season against the East, and is at the beginning of a two-game road trip that ends Saturday in Carolina. The Wild will fly to Raleigh tonight and practice in the Triad tomorrow.

Washington struggled early this season, but has won its last three by a combine 16-4 margin to climb to second place in the new Metropolitan Division. On the strength of Alexander Ovechkin’s return Tuesday, the Capitals knocked off the Isles 6-2 in New York. Ovechkin scored two goals.
Meet the Caps If You're Going
AO has an eye-popping 12 goals in his 13 games played, but the “other” Nicklas Backstrom leads the Caps in scoring with 19 points (5-14=19).

The Capitals have gotten it done on special teams this season. They rank 1st in the NHL on the power play at 27.9% (6 goals from Ovechkin), while they’re first in the league on the PK at a gaudy 91.5%.
We always see Wild fans when we’re in opposing cities, and DC is no different. If you’re at the game tonight, tweet a photo using #mnwildinWSH and we may RT some of our favorites.

The Wild will wear its WHITE sweaters tonight.
Who's Hot Gameday Media
Who isn’t? Well that would be a short section.

After “Graninoville” got the majority of the praises for about a week, the Wild’s top line of Parise, Koivu and Coyle combined for three goals Tuesday. Parise leads the Wild with 14 points — but he’s one of seven players with nine or more points in one of the most well-balanced rosters in the league.

Fans can guess who's going to be hot with the Wild's HotBox Fantasy Challenge presented by the Pioneer Press for a chance to win great prizes.

I hope our guys take it as a challenge, it's us against them. And likewise with our penalty kill. It's a good opportunity to go out there and prove that we continue to go in the right direction. Certainly it's a big challenge.

- Yeo on the special teams play
Defenseman Matt Dumba will be tonight’s healthy scratches.

Mike Rupp is still on Injured Reserve with a lower-body injury. Defenseman Keith Ballard suffered an upper body injury Tuesday and did not travel.
Honorary State of Hockey Resident Worthless Stat
Caps D Nate Schmidt is a native of St. Cloud and played 96 games over three seasons at the U of Minn. (2010-13). RW Joel Ward made his NHL debut with the Wild appearing in 11 games in 2006-07. Minnesota has won two straight games by a combined eight goals for the fourth tim win team history — the first since a nine-goal margin 1/18-1/19/11.
