GAMEDAY: Wild at Dallas
Minnesota Wild vs. Dallas Stars
Minnesota Wild (27-19-5: 59 points, T-7th in Western Conference, 4th in Central Division) vs. Dallas Stars (21-20-7: 49 points, 11th in Western Conference, 6th in Central Division)
Opportunities multiply as they are seized.

That’s been the story of Darcy Kuemper and the Minnesota Wild since the netminder was recalled from the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Wild, on Jan. 2. Since coming back up to the big club, the goaltender has gone 4-1-0 in that time, with a 0.954 save percentage and a 1.36 goals-against average. Because of his hot play, he’ll get his fifth-consecutive start in net tonight against the Dallas Stars.

A number of Wild players have lived by the mantra, including defenseman Nate Prosser. To start the season, Prosser was a healthy scratch for eight of the first nine games. But with an injury to Jared Spurgeon, Prosser has stepped into the lineup and is earning more ice time and opportunity. He became the first defenseman in team history to score back-to-back game-winning goals, including Saturday’s overtime winner on Hockey Day Minnesota against the Stars.

Yesterday, Minnesota recalled goaltender Johan Gustafsson and defenseman Jonathon Blum from Iowa. Gustafsson is expected to backup Kuemper. Niklas Backstrom received an injection for a lower-body injury and will be out tonight. Josh Harding wasn’t feeling well yesterday and will not travel with the team. Wild Head Coach Mike Yeo did not say if Blum will be in tonight or if he was recalled for insurance, but we’ll know more after the team’s morning skate.

The Wild won the first two meetings against Dallas at Xcel Energy Center this season, 5-1 (10/12) and 3-2 OT (1/18). This will be the first time the team travels to American Airlines Center, where the team hasn’t found a ton of success. Minnesota is 4-14-6 all-time in the Lone Star State.

Minnesota won the Hockey Day Minnesota matchup against the Stars in thrilling fashion, 3-2 in overtime. Prosser was the hero, scoring for the second time this season in the extra session. Erik Haula scored his first-career goal in the first period, and Ryan Suter scored his sixth of the season in the second. Kuemper made 33 saves for the win.

The Stars were in Nashville last night, losing to the Preds, 4-1. Cody Eakin scored the game’s first goal, but it went south from there, giving up four straight. Kari Lehtonen made 19 saves in the loss.

With the Wild on the road, it continues to look for fan engagement with the Red Baron Roadie. The contest is how fans can win great items like autographed merchandise, and maybe even a spot on the 2014-15 Fan Road Trip. Visit the contest rules page for more info on how to enter.
If You're Going
The New Year has been very unkind to the Stars. Dallas has been one of the League's worst teams in January, having been outscored 39-22 while going 1-8-1.

In the team’s last outing against Minnesota, color commentator Daryl "Razor" Reaugh detailed the club’s tailspin as, “A blind man in a dark room looking for a black hat that isn’t there.” Ouch.
You’re lucky because it’s freezing in the State of Hockey. If you’re staying in Minnesota, bundle up and head to Jimmy’s in Vadnais Heights for an official team viewing party.

The Wild will wear its WHITE sweaters tonight.
Who's Hot Gameday Media
Charlie Coyle has recorded six points in his last five games (2-4=6), having already set a career high for most points in a season and now has 18 points (6-12=18) in 39 contests this year.

Fans can guess who's going to be hot with the Wild's HotBox Fantasy Challenge for a chance to win great prizes.

Probably Wild Lineup Between The Pipes
Expect the forward lines to remain the same:

Things look to stay the same on the blue line unless Blum is in:

Kuemper is undefeated in his career against the Stars. Well, 1-0-0 after Saturday's win.
View From The Press Box
Sometimes your third goalie is called upon to back up and maybe play a game here or there, but certainly he's been thrown into more of a starting role for us, and he's taken that opportunity…Good for him and good for us.

-Yeo on Kuemper’s play
Forward Mike Rupp is expected to be tonight’s healthy scratch up front. We’ll know who is out on the blue line after the team’s morning skate.

Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu and Jared Spurgeon are all listed on IR with lower-body injuries. Josh Harding joins them due to illness.
Honorary State of Hockey Resident Worthless Stat
Alex Goligoski (Grand Rapids) is a Minnesota native. Ryan Suter celebrates his 29th birthday Tuesday, while Dany Heatley celebrates his 33rd.
