ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Manny Fernandez got just enough support to carry the low-scoring Minnesota Wild past the Calgary Flames.
Fernandez made 31 saves, and Andrei Zyuzin had a goal and an assist to lead Minnesota to a 2-1 victory Tuesday night.
Pascal Dupuis added his fifth goal of the season for the Wild, who won for just the third time in their last 10 games and sent the Flames to their first loss in their last six.
"We're turning a corner," Wild coach Jacques Lemaire said. "But the corner is huge. And right now, we're in the middle."
The Wild's offense, which was very potent last season, has been sputtering. Speedster Marian Gaborik has only three goals in 15 games and the Wild hadn't scored more than one goal in their previous six games. Three of those were losses, including a 2-1 loss at Calgary on Friday night, and two were ties.
Minnesota was outshot for the 13th straight time, but Fernandez was solid in the net.
Over the past 12 games, Fernandez and Dwayne Roloson have combined for a 1.81 goals against average. The Minnesota defense was ranked fifth best in the NHL.
"This is a time for (Roloson) and myself to help the team," Fernandez said.
The Flames started fast, getting 14 shots in the first period. But, unlike in their 6-1 victory against Pittsburgh on Sunday, they couldn't sustain any kind of offensive flow.
"It was a frustrating game," Jarome Iginla said. "They got up by two, and they're tough enough to come back on when you're down by one. But we almost did it."
Fernandez was 4:32 away from his second shutout of the season when Martin Gelinas, playing his 1,000th NHL game, cut the Wild's lead to 2-1 after a faceoff. Chuck Kobasew's shot hit off Fernandez's pads and Gelinas lunged at the puck to beat Fernandez while falling to the ice.
Calgary had a late chance after Minnesota was penalized for having too many men on the ice with 1:01 remaining. The Flames pulled goalie Miikka Kiprusoff, but couldn't get off a clean shot. Fernandez made a nice save with 8.8 seconds to go.
"We had guys going to the net," Flames coach Darryl Sutter said. "We put the puck there and we did everything we wanted to do, but we couldn't finish."
Shean Donovan, who had a hat trick in Calgary's win over the Penguins, saw his six-game goal scoring streak end.
"I thought we played a pretty good 60 minutes," Sutter said. "We certainly had more opportunities tonight, but we couldn't solve Fernandez."
Kiprusoff, who entered the game on a four-game winning streak, fell to 6-2 since being acquired in a trade with San Jose three weeks ago. He finished with 17 saves.
Minnesota opened the scoring at 3:28 of the second period when Zyuzin picked up a deflected puck in front of the net and flipped it over Kiprusoff's outstretched glove. It was only the third goal scored by a Minnesota defenseman since Oct. 10.
Dupuis scored his first power-play goal of the season in the second period to make it 2-0. He tipped in Zyuzin's hard shot from the blue line at the 12:42 mark.
"It's such a relief," Fernandez said about his team finally scoring more than one goal. "Defensively, we've played great. I'm sure all the forwards were happy about it. ... I'm sure we can use it as a confidence booster."
