Calgary Flames 2, Minnesota Wild 1 FINAL

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) _ The Calgary Flames are proving that their strong first half was for real.

Robyn Regehr broke a tie 6:25 into the third period to give the Flames their fourth straight victory since the All-Star break, 2-1 over the Minnesota Wild.

``Everyone took the time to rest and to focus on the stretch of games from the All-Star game to the end of the season,'' Regehr said of the Flames, the fifth-place team in the Western Conference.

That focus showed Sunday, as Calgary scored a pair of power-play goals and Miikka Kiprusoff allowed only a quirky goal.

The Wild are on the other end of the playoff chase, having missed an opportunity to gain on one of the teams they are chasing. Minnesota is 10th in the West.

``It seems whenever we get to one game below the .500 mark, we just can't seem to get there,'' Minnesota's Wes Walz said.

Jarome Iginla scored his 29th goal for the Flames, who surpassed last season's victory total by earning their 30th win of the season.

The game matched the NHL's top two goaltenders in saves percentage, and Kiprusoff stopped 15 shots to outdo Minnesota's Dwayne Roloson. Kiprusoff earned his third straight victory since returning last week after being out more than a month because of a strained knee.

Not surprisingly, the teams played a tight defensive game. Each club recorded just 16 shots on goal.

``If you look at their chances, I bet you can count them on one hand,'' Minnesota's Brad Bombardir said. ``I think you can count the chances we had on one hand, as well. It was a tight game.''

Regehr broke a 1-1 tie with a wrist shot from the left point that sailed through the legs of teammate Martin Gelinas and past Roloson on the stick side. The power-play tally was Regehr's third goal this season.

Iginla also scored on the power play, and the Flames went 2-for-6 with the man advantage. Craig Conroy set up the goal, feeding the puck from behind the Minnesota net past three Wild defenders.

Iginla took the pass between the circles, stepped to his right into open ice, and flipped a wrist shot over Roloson's glove with 41 seconds left in the first period.

``That was just a great pass,'' Iginla said. ``He put it through three guys, and I had pretty much half the net to shoot at.''

Iginla, who has 11 goals in 10 games, needs to score just one more to post his fourth straight 30-goal season.

Sergei Zholtok scored Minnesota's only goal 5:10 into the second period. Zholtok passed the puck from the blue line toward Pascal Dupuis, who was crossing in front of the Calgary crease. Flames defenseman Andrew Ference kept Dupuis out of the play, but the puck ticked off Ference's skate and trickled between Kiprusoff's legs.

It was Zholtok's 12th goal and sixth in six games.
