PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Branko Radivojevic came on the ice for defensive purposes and delivered on the offensive end.
Radivojevic scored the tiebreaking goal with 53 seconds left in the third period, leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.
Mike Knuble set up Radivojevic's goal by knocking the puck out of the air, breaking in from the slot and getting a shot on goaltender Manny Fernandez, who made a glove save. Radivojevic, who had just jumped over the boards, streaked behind Knuble and put in the rebound for his fifth goal.
``I was a little lucky to get a two-on-one,'' Radivojevic said. ``I drove hard to the net and was in the right place.''
Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock sent Radivojevic out for the final minute to help preserve the tie and force overtime.
Peter Forsberg returned to the lineup with a goal and assist after missing six games with a groin strain, and Kim Johnsson also scored for Philadelphia.
The injury-depleted Flyers, who were without Simon Gagne for the first time, have won four of six.
Todd White and Nick Schultz scored for Minnesota, which has lost five of six.
``It's tough when you don't get the bounces,'' Schultz said. ``(Knuble) knocks a puck down in the middle and gets a chance to win it.''
Without Gagne, the Flyers will need other players like Radivojevic to pick up the scoring slack. Gagne, who led the NHL with 23 goals, has a groin tear and is expected to be out two weeks.
The Flyers also are without top defenseman Eric Desjardins for eight to 10 weeks because of a partially dislocated right shoulder, and defenseman Joni Pitkanen is expected to miss about a month with a torn abdominal muscle. Captain Keith Primeau has been sidelined with a concussion since Oct. 28, and forward Turner Stevenson is out with a hip injury.
White tied it at 2 during a two-man advantage early in the third period. Marian Gaborik broke his stick on a slap shot and the puck went to White near the side of the net. White tucked it in for his fifth goal.
Schultz cut it to 2-1 on his first goal of the season in the second period. Alexandre Daigle centered a pass from behind the net between the legs of Flyers defenseman Mike Rathje to Schultz, who lifted a shot over goalie Antero Niittymaki's shoulder.
``Alex made a good pass. I just wanted to get it on net. It's nice to get on the board,'' Schultz said.
Forsberg gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead in the first period with his ninth goal. He intercepted a pass from Wild defenseman Willie Mitchell near the boards, skated to the slot and slapped a shot past Fernandez.
``He's a great player. He's a player that makes the difference. He's probably the top player this year,'' Wild coach Jacques Lemaire said.
Forsberg set up the second goal by drawing a hooking penalty to give the Flyers a power play. Then, he sent a crisp, cross-ice pass to Johnsson, who wristed a shot into the top left corner for a 2-0 lead.
``It was a perfect pass,'' Johnsson said. ``He's the best passer in the league. His puck skills are amazing. When Peter has the puck, other teams are afraid to get at him so we all sit and wait.''
