Wild Edge Oilers
Minnesota Wild 4, Edmonton Oilers 3
After two days of intra-squad scrimmages and just one penalty shot goal by Dany Heatley, the Wild got a chance to show some offense in its first preseason game, a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night at Rexall Place.

The Wild wasted no time in showing the ability to score, pumping three goals past Nikolai Khabibulin in the first period. The road team's 3-0 lead was eventually erased by the Oilers who rebounded with three goals of their own in the second period.

But Jared Spurgeon, playing in his hometown, scored two goals against the Oilers, one of which opened the scoring and one that stood as the game-winner. Half of Spurgeon's four career NHL goals scored last season came against Edmonton and now he has two preseason markers against the Oil.

Spurgeon's long shot from the point just five seconds after Taylor Hall highsticked Justin Falk in the face, eluded Tyler Bunz with less than two minutes to play in regulation. Spurgeon had also scored just two minutes into the game with an unassisted tally.

The Wild's power play clicked for the first time with just under five minutes left in the first. Fridley native Jarod Palmer, seeing his first-ever NHL action, buried his first goal of the preseason for a 2-0 lead.

Finally, a veteran of many games, but seeing his first preseason action in a long time, Pierre-Marc Bouchard roofed a shot against Khabibulin, a goaltender he continues to torment.

Aside from the goals, there was some extracurricular activity as well. Matt Kassian dropped the gloves in an expected tussle with Darcy Hordichuk in the first period. Early in the third, Darroll Powe was given a five minute boarding major from a hit delivered to Taylor Fedun.
