What is RSS?
RSS is a three letter abreviation that stands for Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary or RDF Site Summary.  It is a XML-based system that allows users to subscribe to data feeds, such as NHL.com Top Headlines and NHL.com Feature Stories using a news reader.

What is a news reader?
RSS/News Readers (also called Aggregators) download and display RSS feeds.   If you're using Mozilla's latest version of Thunderbird (email) or Firefox (web browser) or Apple's Safari, then you already have an RSS news reader.
